Maxwell

The “Wooden Nickel” railroad belonging to Art and Gerry Maxwell of Lowell, Indiana is modeled after the 1860 through 1910 era. The railroad depicts the simpler way of life during the horse and buggy era, prior to gas powered vehicles. The layout consists of an upper and lower loop that is connected for continuous run main line or two individually controlled trains. All buildings are hand built of cedar and reflect what one might view while passing through a small mid-western town at the turn of the century.

Evergreens and plantings are of dwarf variety or small scaled perennial flowering plants. Some of the rolling stock has been scratch built. The engines and remaining rolling stock are Bachmann Spectrum or from their Big Hauler series trains. Aristocraft track with LGB switch motors have held up well over the 10 year span of the road. Many of the animals, people and background items were picked up at numerous garage sales in the area.
