The Bull Moose Line (Nickname): To the delight of onlookers, at the Indiana Pond and Water Show in Crown Point Indiana, the IGRS Portable Railroad Garden made its first appearance in May of 2004.
With this showing, the IGRS took its initial steps to promote G-Scale railroading as a hobby in the tri-state area of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. During the 2005 National G-Scale Convention the IGRS Portable was featured in the lobby of the St. Charles Illinois Convention Center.
By happenstance, a lone Bull Moose figurine found its way onto the layout during its early showings. From then on more of the rack-horned critters started to appear, which ultimately led to the IGRS operating roads nickname, “The Bull Moose Line.”
Over the course of ten years the Portable has been displayed over 55 times and enjoyed by more than 250,000 viewers. During these showings the IGRS handed out over 86,000 train whistles to boys and girls who stopped to watch the G-Scale trains run. The Portable unit was retired from use in 2010.
The Bull Moose Line located at 295 North State Rd. 2 Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. Open to the public Saturdays 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. May through September (weather permitting). Directions: Map Tel: 219-462-6924
